Cockroaches are an issue that you and your Tulsa exterminator can eliminate if need be. These insects will get inside your home and seek out your kitchen and pantry places in order to feed off of our food. These tropical pests love the mild temperatures that we keep our homes and businesses at. Essentially they are the perfect parasite for plaguing us as humans. Keeping them out of our homes will protect us and our loved ones from diseases and other unsanitary conditions. So in this article, let us take a good hard look at cockroaches, their life cycle, and what are you and your Tulsa exterminator can do to do to protect your home from cockroaches.

KEEPING COCKROACHES OUT AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

The first step in keeping cockroaches out of your home is to make sure that your home is sanitary. These insects love to eat the food that we eat. That means that if you leave out your dirty dishes overnight, you are providing a buffet for these small hungry insects. They will find the food particles and eat them and pick some of them up and take them back to their harborage place. if you have a teenager that likes to keep food underneath their bed, this is a great place for cockroaches to find this food and set up camp.

Keeping clean conditions are key for eliminating these insects and keeping them out of our homes. Another place to watch out for is your dishwasher. Often food particles can get caught into the filter in the dishwasher and never be cleaned out. If cockroaches can find a way into the dishwasher, they’ll start to feed off of that food and come back and forth to it as often as they can.

ELIMINATING CLUTTER

Eliminating clutter also keeps them from finding places where they can hide from you. This will protect your home from these small cockroaches. These insects are very adept and can get into very small cracks and squeeze into any spot they need to. Often they will set up camp inside a wall or behind an appliance. So it’s important that you keep the clutter to a minimum if you can. But if you’ve done all of these things, but still have found yourself in a situation with a cockroach infestation, you might also have a plumbing issue. The larger cockroaches, such as the American, and oriental cockroach are always seeking out areas of high moisture. If you have a plumbing leak or a foundation leak, this could be letting moisture into your home and allowing these insects to find a way inside. COCKROACH COMMUNITY AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

Cockroaches are actually closely related to ants and termites. These eusocial insects actually work together for the common good of a colony using a caste system to divide the work. While cockroaches don’t necessarily work in a huge social colony like these insects do, they do still use a sense of community to help one another. The older adult cockroaches that are fully grown, will go out and forage for food. The young cockroaches will stay in their harborage point. As these adult cockroaches come in contact with different food items and feed, they will pick up food on their exoskeleton. When they get back to the harborage point, the little cockroaches will swarm around them, and start to eat off of the food stuck to their exoskeleton. As these insects start to defecate, the small roaches will actually eat their droppings.

CONTROL METHODS

Because of this, there are many different control methods that use this mode of action in order to eliminate cockroaches. Baits are a common tool used against cockroaches. Not only will the baits be eaten by the adult cockroach, but the foraging roach will pick up some of these baits on its exoskeleton, and pass them off to the young. This means that you cannot only kill the adult cockroaches but the little ones inside as well. Spraying cockroaches down with a can of spray will simply kill the ones that are in front of you. This will not get the little ones in the harborage point.

Using non-repellent sprays that your Tulsa exterminator will have access to is another way to kill all of the cockroaches. These sprays will be picked up by the adult foraging cockroach, brought back to the harborage point, and spread around to the other smaller insects. This will wipe out the whole community. OVER THE COUNTER SOLUTIONS AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

These over the counter solutions are not a good way to deal with cockroaches. While they will kill the ones that you can see, they will often cause more problems than the ones that you can’t see. The sprays have two parts to them. The first part is a knockdown agent which kills these insects on contact. Again it only kills what you can see. Once this part breaks down after a few minutes, a residual repellent spray is left.

This spray will last for about 30 days. This repellent spray will often trap cockroaches in their harborage point, not allowing them to escape. This does allow for the adolescent cockroaches to go on to adulthood, and for the adults to mate and start laying more eggs. By the time that it’s all said and done you could easily have two or three times as many cockroaches as when you started. Contact your Tulsa exterminator for help with cockroaches.
