Eliminating cockroaches is a job for your Tulsa exterminator. Cockroaches are vermin that get into our homes and attempt to eat our food. They often spread diseases because of the nasty places that they’ve been and the disgusting things that they eat. They’re truly at the bottom of the food chain and we should keep them out of our homes to keep a safe and sanitary area for our loved ones to live in. So in this article, let’s take a look at cockroaches, their life cycle and what you and your Tulsa exterminators can do to keep these insects from entering your home.

Indoor cockroaches

In Oklahoma, we find two kinds of cockroaches that tend to invade our indoor areas. The first one is the German cockroach. Close to 75% of the situations we deal with are German cockroaches. These cockroaches are brown in color and about 3/4 of an inch long. We often find them in the kitchen and pantry areas, attempting to eat our food. The second kind of cockroach that we find indoors is the brown banded cockroach. It is also a brown cockroach that is about 33 quarters of an inch long but has three round yellow bands around its abdomen. These insects usually find themselves a little higher up on the wall, often behind paintings and wall hangings. Contact your Tulsa exterminator for help with dealing with these kinds of cockroaches.

Outdoor cockroaches and Tulsa exterminator

The second type of cockroach that we often see here in Oklahoma is one of the two outdoor cockroach types. The first is the American cockroach. This is the largest cockroach of the four. It’s about 2 and 1/2 to 3 inches long and brown in color. These large cockroaches are very scary and daunting, but in most cases harmless. They usually hurt entering our home in a search for moisture. Broken pipes and excessive condensation are the causes of these insects making their way into your home.

Oriental cockroaches are also attracted to these kinds of things. These black cockroaches are about two and a half inches long and a little fatter than the American cockroach. They’re often found in drainage ditches and sewers. Like the American cockroach, they are bottom feeders and will feed on rotting plant and animal material or dung. They can pick up many different kinds of diseases and bacteria when they’re in these dirty places, and if they find their way into your home, they can transmit that to your loved ones.
