In the spring months, termites will seek to multiply their colony. They will produce a special type of termite known as an aelate. These Swarmers are winged termites that will fly away, searching for a swarm of like-minded termites. Here they will pair up, male and female, and mate in mid air. Then they’ll fly to a suitable location and create a new colony. They’ll dig down in the ground and open up a space known as a royal chamber. This will be the beginnings of their new colony. Then the female will start laying eggs and the male will work until the first eggs hatch. The nymphs that are released from those first eggs will become the workers of the new colony and the king will die off.
