Mice are no match for your Broken Arrow exterminator. Mice and rats are small rodents that find their way into our homes and attempt to get into our kitchens and pantries in order to feed off of the food that we eat. These small rodents love the warm homes that we provide for ourselves, the water, through the form of condensation that they can find on our plumbing, and of course the food that we have. Most of them are an invasive species that have used the shipping lanes to get all over the world. So in this article, let’s take a good hard look at mice and rats, their life cycle and what are you and your Broken Arrow exterminator can do to protect yourself from them.

MOUSE LIFECYCLE AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

Mice are extremely prolific at reproduction to themselves. These small mammals are gestated inside the mothers womb like most other mammals. It takes about 30 days for a female to bring a litter to full fruition and birth them. Even once the female has given birth, she can immediately mate again and get pregnant. She doesn’t need any recovery time to be able to become pregnant the next time around. Each litter that she has contains anywhere from 8 to 12 young mice. If you do the math, this means that a female can have up to 150 baby mice in a year if given the opportunity. In most cases, these mice don’t live long enough or have the perfect life situation to be able to pull this off. But this doesn’t mean that they can’t reproduce extremely quickly.

The reason they reproduce so quickly is because they find themselves at the bottom of the food chain. There are so many different animals that would love to take a mouse and make a meal out of it. So in order to stay ahead of this, they reproduce extremely quickly to make sure that they’re species never dies out. But this also means that if you have them in your home, they’re going to gain in numbers quite quickly. In most cases, simply going to a hardware store and getting traps or rodenticide just is not enough to stay ahead of their reproductive capabilities. It’s important that you call your Broken Arrow exterminator in for help if you have mice or rats in your home.

MICE SENSES AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

Mice have some extraordinary senses. Their ability to hear is very acute. This gives them the ability to sense when predators are near or if they need to get out of the way quickly. While this is not always effective, it gives them a definite advantage. When things come from the sky or the land, and try to attack them, they can be ready for anything. Their ability to smell gives them the ability to sense where food is. Even if they smell this food inside a plastic bag, they can smell so good that they can still identify that there’s food inside a plastic bag, chew through the bag and get to the food.

Unfortunately, their sense of vision is not so good. But in order to navigate to a room, they will use their acute sense of feeling. Many times. you’ll see mice following the wall of a room when it runs. This is because it’s using its whiskers to feel the wall as it runs past. Using this sense of feeling they can navigate a room quickly and easily.

MICE TEETH

Mice teeth are also somewhat unique as well. Their two front teeth are made in a way where they continue to grow throughout the entirety of the mouse, or the rats life. Because they never stop growing, they must be trimmed on the regular basis. In order to do this, mice and rats will chew on things even if they don’t need to for their own survival. This just keeps their teeth short enough that they can use them and keeps them very sharp.

The front of the two front teeth of a mouse is covered with a hard enamel. The back of these teeth is not. This means that when they do chew and trim back their teeth, the back part of their tooth will wear away faster than the front creating a sharp wedge like shape. This keeps their teeth very sharp. CONTROLLING MICE AND RATS AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

As I said before, in most cases, people will run straight to the hardware store when they find out that they have mice or rats in their home. Traps are a very common use for these rodents. But unfortunately traps not only need to be cleaned out every time that they’ve been used, but they also can only trap mice and rats one at a time. Because these rodents reproduce so quickly, this is very inefficient and often too slow.

Rodenticides purchased over the counter are also very slow in order to maintain a certain amount of safety for the average person to be able to purchase over the counter. Rodenticides available to your Broken Arrow exterminator are far more potent and quick. They can get ahead of the reproductive cycle of the mouse far better than anything you can get over-the-counter. So it’s important that you contact your Broken Arrow exterminator for help when it comes to mice and rats.
