Your Broken Arrow Exterminator are experts when it comes to dealing with cockroaches in or around your home or business. Cockroaches are filthy insects that can carry many different diseases. They love tropical areas, much like where they originated, which means they can thoroughly infest your home, especially if you keep it at the average of 70 °F, like most people do. Keeping them out of your home should be the number one priority. In this article, let’s take a good hard look at cockroaches, their life cycle, and what you and your Broken Arrow exterminator can do to keep these insects away from you and your loved ones.

Dirty Cockroaches

Cockroaches act as the cleanup crew for nature. They are bottom feeders that take care of all the dead and decaying matter that falls to the forest floor. They eat dead plant material, dead animal material, and droppings. They’re often found in sewer systems feeding upon human waste. In and around all these unsanitary environments, they can carry many different diseases through bacteria and viruses on their exoskeletons. Because of this, it’s important to keep them out of your home. If they get into your pantry and start feeding on food, they can spread those diseases to you and your loved ones.

A cockroach running across the countertop can leave these diseases on food surfaces where you’ll be preparing your next meal. No one wants these disgusting insects anywhere near their home, much less their food or food preparation surfaces. Keeping them out starts by ensuring you have a clean home. Keeping food and dirty dishes cleaned up is imperative to keeping these bugs out of your home. Clutter can provide them spaces to hide if left unchecked. Cockroach Types and Broken Arrow Exterminator

There are essentially four different types of cockroaches we see in Oklahoma. The most common is the German cockroach, which is about 3/4 of an inch long, brown in color, and usually found around kitchen areas. The second is the brown-banded cockroach, which is also small and brown but has three yellow bands around its abdomen. These are also commonly found in kitchens. The American cockroach is a large cockroach, almost 3 inches long, brown in color, and not typically found as much in kitchens as it is around water supplies such as plumbing or other damp areas. Lastly, the oriental cockroach is about two and a half inches long and black in color. This bottom feeder also finds its way indoors by searching for water sources.
