They hide in wall voids and behind appliances and feed upon the food that we leave behind. The second type of cockroach that we find is the brown-banded cockroach. This cockroach looks much like the German cockroach but has three yellow bands around its abdomen.
They often perch high up on the wall and will flutter their wings down if startled. We see them many times behind pictures and other wall hangings. The brown-banded cockroach is also a pantry pest and will eat any kind of food that it can get its hands on. As far as Oklahoma pests are concerned, there are two outdoor cockroaches that make their way inside as well. The first of these is the American cockroach. This is the mammoth of the group. At 2 and 1/2 to 3 inches long, this brown cockroach usually finds its way in search of water. Damp areas in your house with condensation or any kind of plumbing leaks can lead to these insects finding their way in. They don’t really eat our food, but they have interest in any damp areas. We often see them in sewers, cellars, and any other place they can find moisture. The last one is the Oriental cockroach. It’s a little bit shorter and black in color.
