Termites can be dealt with by your local Tulsa pest control company. Termites are a wood destroying insect that feed upon the wood that makes up our homes and buildings. While these insects are great at managing fallen trees and dead plants in the wild, they’re not a good mix when paired up with the homes and buildings that we make out of wood. Not only do they eat the structural wood that makes up our buildings but also the drywall can be a tasty treat for these insects. So in this article, let us take a good hard look at termites, their lifecycle, and what you and your Tulsa pest control company can do to protect your home from these insects.

TREATING TERMITES AND TULSA PEST CONTROL

There are essentially two different ways that we treat termites. The liquid treatment is the oldest treatment, and is very effective against active termite infestation‘s. Basically, we’re trying to create a curtain of pesticide treated dirt that surrounds your home and protects it. In Oklahoma the termites that we have is the eastern subterranean termite. These termites must stay underground in order to have the humidity required for them to survive. If they come up above ground without any protection, they will dry out and die immediately. So this treatment consists of digging a trench around your home and pouring a lot of pesticide down inside that trench. This pesticidal drains down through the dirt up against the side of your home, creating that curtain like barrier protecting it. Then the dirt that gets put back in the trench is also treated giving a perfect seal. Wherever there is cement that comes up against the home, holes must be drilled through the cement and the pesticide must be pumped underneath the slab. This creates this dirt curtain underneath the slab, protecting your home in these places as well. Contact your Tulsa pest control company for help.

TERMITE BAIT STATIONS

The second method by which we protect our homes is by installing using a termite bait station system. These are plastic stations that are buried in the ground at specific intervals around your home. As a termites forage for food, they will be in the top 6 inches of the soil. They will fan out from their colony until they reach some source of food such as a tree or your home. When they come close to your home, they’ll come in contact with these bait stations that are full of a tasty bait. They’ll take this bait back to the colony. There’s a pesticide in the bait station that will wipe out the colony. The bait inside the station is made of pure cellulose. This makes these stations much more palatable to termites than just regular wood. Contact your Tulsa pest control company for help with termites.
