Termites are a problem that Tulsa Pest Control can help you get under control. These insects feed on dead or dying wood products. As the cleanup crew of nature, they can be very effective at eliminating dead trees and fallen branches. But when they enter our homes or businesses and start to cause structural damage, it becomes a pest problem. Let’s take a look at termites, their life cycle, and what you and your Tulsa pest control company can do to stop them from invading our homes.

Reproductive system of termites

Termites are a social insect that uses a colony in order to divide up the work of the family of termites. These colonies often number in the millions. They often begin as a pair of swarmers from other colonies. Each colony will develop these swarming termites, which are special reproductive termites that have wings. Tulsa Pest Control knows all this and they can provide better solution. In the springtime, these wing termites will fly off into the night air, looking for a large swarm of other like-minded termites from nearby colonies. These termites will pair up.  Male and female will mate in mid-air and then find a place to land.

As soon as they do, their wings will fall off and they will dig out the beginnings of the new colony. This royal chamber, as it’s called, will become the first room in the new colony. The female will immediately begin to lay eggs and the male will go searching for food. Eventually, these eggs will hatch and nymphs will emerge. These nymphs are smaller versions of the adult termite. They will take over the job as workers of the king of the colony. Once the king has served his purpose, he will die.

As the nymphs continue to grow, they will continue the job of workers and eventually grow to the point where they need to shed their exoskeleton. They will mould and replace that exoskeleton with a brand new one. This new one will have a much more supple and larger exoskeleton that can continue the process of growth. Eventually, once they reach their full potential, they will find their way to the cast that they will spend the rest of their life in. The reproductive cast the soldier cast, the worker cast or the places that they will find themselves. Contact your Tulsa pest control company for more help and more information about termites.
