BEDBUG HISTORY AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

We’ve had bedbugs for centuries. There are writings from the middle ages that describe potions that use bedbugs as an ingredient. The Romans talked about their trials with “Cimex lectularius Linnaeus”, or their word for the bedbug. There are even cave paintings with references to these insects attacking people in their sleep. In fact, it’s suspected that caves are where these insects began. Back when we were cave dwellers, bats lives above us. The not so distant cousin of the bed bug, the bat bug fed upon the blood of bats above these prehistoric humans. Some of those bedbugs crawled down the side of the walls and fed up on the human’s blood. They got a taste for it, and that day the bedbug was born.

Bedbugs are blood feeders. They have a somewhat unique way of feeding upon us as humans. They will stab their needle like mouth parts into the skin, drawing blood all the way from the beginning to the end of their bite. When they are finished biting, often a little bit of blood will come out, creating the red speck that you often see on mattresses. Usually when they eat, bedbugs will want to defecate as well. This is where the black specks come from. If you’re seeing red and black specks on your sheets or mattresses, this is telltale sign that you’re dealing with bedbugs. Your Broken Arrow exterminator will have more information.

BEDBUG DISEASE AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

Because the bedbug draws blood the entire time it bites, there’s no opportunity for any form of backwash. Because of this, bedbugs do not spread diseases that we know of. Even though there are no diseases spread, the mental discomfort and pain is enough to create a psychological damaging situation. It’s important to get bedbugs treated by your local Broken Arrow exterminator.

Bedbugs can only survive on human blood. While they can bite pets and other animals, those types of blood will only sustain them, they won’t allow them to move forward through their life cycle. Because of this, they need to feed upon humans. If they can’t find a blood meal with a human, they will lie perfectly still until an unsuspecting person comes by. They could survive this way for up to a year. This is why it’s important to take care of bedbugs and not try to wait it out. It only takes one bite on you or your pet and suddenly these insects have a new lease on life for another year. Your Broken Arrow exterminator can stop this.

BEDBUG SIGNS AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

If you think you’re having issues with bedbugs, it’s time to do an inspection of your bed and furniture.  Your Broken Arrow exterminator can help you with this. If you’d like to do it yourself, there are some things you want to look for. The first thing would be the red and black specks that you can find on a new mattress or the sheets. The specks are usually found in the seams where the bedbugs like to hide. Bedbugs find security when they feel the ground underneath them and some pressure from above above them. This makes them feel like they’re hidden and safe. Because of this, they wedge themselves between mattress seams often.

It’s in these seams that you’ll find not only the live bugs, but also the eggs. The live bugs are usually a brownish red in color and about the size and shape of an apple seed. They start much smaller and are actually translucent until they get their first blood meal. That blood will stay in their insides, creating the brownish red color that you see. The eggs are small, yellowish, white eggs that are in the shape of a small grain of rice. If you see any of these, you know you have a situation with bedbugs and need to call your Broken Arrow exterminator right away.

BEDBUG SOLUTIONS AND BROKEN ARROW EXTERMINATOR

There are many over-the-counter solutions for bedbugs in your hardware store. Unfortunately, these are ineffective at best. Almost all of these pesticides are some form of permethrin pesticide. Permethrin are family of pesticides, derived from a naturally found pesticide found in chrysanthemum plants. This family of pesticides were used extensively against bedbugs in the 90s with a lot of luck. Unfortunately, the bedbug is very good at adapting and creating an immunity against pesticides that are overused against it. That’s exactly what happened with permethrin, and now the bedbug is pretty much immune to this form pesticides.

Your Broken Arrow exterminator will have access to much more effective treatment methods. This will usually include some form of non-repellent, pesticide that these bugs don’t even realize is there. They walk through it, and then go back to wherever they are harboring and rub the pesticide off on all of their comrades. Once they do this, this will kill all of the bedbugs at the harborage point.
