Fleas are an issue that you and your Tulsa exterminator can handle together. These parasitic insects will attack your pets and loved ones if they can find away in your home. They specifically target dogs and cats and love to use our homes to shelter themselves. While the tiny flea may look harmless, it is a vector for many different diseases, and can cause a lot of discomfort for you and your pets. So in this article, let us take a good look at fleas, what makes them tick and how are you and your Tulsa exterminator can keep them out of your home.

FLEA PREVENTION AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

If you are going to deal with fleas, there are essentially three areas that have to be taken care of. The first is the animal himself. Your cat or dog or other pet can get these fleas from going outside to use the bathroom or being in a kennel or groomer that has another animal with a flea problem. But there are ways to prevent this from occurring. To start with, it’s best to contact your veterinarian to begin a flea prevention program for your pet. They have access to many different over-the-counter and prescription remedies for fleas. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

But what happens if fleas make their way into your house? These insects not only will live on the back of your pets, but they will also make a home in your carpets and bedding. So once they’ve gained a foothold, I said it before, it’s important to start with your pet. But often once you start a treatment plan for your pet, this can cause some of these fleas to jump off of your pet before it kills them. In addition, fleas use their environment outside the host animal for parts of their life cycle. This is where your Tulsa exterminator comes in. They can treat the inside of your house and get rid of fleas for you. It is a process, but it can be done.

FLEA TREATMENT PREPARATION, AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

So how does a flea treatment work? In most indoor treatments, you will need to have your pets and yourself out of the house for a period of time to allow for the treatment of your home and the dry time. Your Tulsa exterminator will come in and do a treatment mostly of your carpets and your animals, bedding area, and any other danger areas where these fleas could be hiding. After you’ve gone through the process of having it treated and allowing it to dry, the process is not finished.

While many insects can be killed with one treatment, fleas require multiple treatments to wipe them out. Fleas have four parts to their lifecycle. These four parts are the egg, the larva, the pupa, and the adult. The adult stage is on the host animal, so treating your dog or cat will eliminate those. But the other three lifecycles happen in and around the bedding or on the carpeting. But while these insects are in their egg or pupa stage, pesticides, and other treatments will not harm them. Only in their larva and adult stages can we kill them. Because of this, we have to get them to come out of these egg and pupa stages.

FLEA LIFE CYCLE, AND TULSA EXTERMINATOR

Fleas will wait until they sense a host animal near them before they move to the next cycle. When they’re in their egg or pupa state, they can sense an animal nearby based on vibration and heat. So if we can mimic that vibration and heat, then we can get them to exit these protective layers quicker than normal. The way to do this is to vacuum. The vacuum cleaner will create a vibration and heat source that mimics a host animal. The more you can vacuum, the more you can get these insects to come out of hiding. And that means a quicker solution for your flea problem.

In most cases, we recommend vacuuming at least once a day, if not more than that, if possible. Again, vacuuming more often will get these insects out and in contact with a pesticide that has been sent out. Because of this, flea treatments are often multiple treatments over a period of time. We like to treat every two weeks. This entire process may take one month or more worth of treatments, depending on how severe the infestation. But if you continue a solution will arise. FLEA OUTDOOR TREATMENTS

In some cases, your yard may have an excessive amount of fleas. While it’s impossible to eliminate every flea from your yard, it is possible to knock the numbers down, so that your pets can go outside and enjoy the outdoors without having to worry about an over abundance of fleas. Flea treatments to the yard are usually done with a special machine known as a mister. This machine takes pesticide and atomize it and sends it across your yard as a mist. It will land on the leaves and blades of grass, including all the plants in the area. Then, when a flea attempts to get on the foliage to jump onto a host animal, it will come in contact with this pesticide. These treatments are very effective.
