They feed on food wherever they can find it, including dirty dishes and trash cans. The next kind is the brown-banded cockroach. It looks much like the German cockroach, except it has three yellow bands around its abdomen. This insect is also a pantry pest but is often found higher up on walls and other places. Of the four cockroaches that we find as pests in Oklahoma, the last two are outdoor cockroaches. The American cockroach is the largest of the bunch, coming in at about 3 inches. This insect is brown in color and big. Big and ugly. But this isn’t after our food. It usually follows moisture into our homes and stumbles its way in. Broken pipes and plumbing issues are usually the cause for these insects to find their way in. While they’re big and ugly, they are just as afraid of you as you are of them. The last of the cockroaches is the Oriental cockroach. It’s a black cockroach about 2 1/2 inches long and is often found in drains, ditches, and sewers. It follows moisture into the plumbing.
