Your Broken Arrow pest control company will help you eradicate mice and other pests from your home. Mice are small rodents that are part of the mammalian family, Muridae. You must have probably spotted one before, so you will recognize their pointy ears, small eyes, whiskers, and long tails. There are many types of mice that live all around the world, so their looks, behaviors, and habits can vary a lot. Mice are an important part of the ecosystem but they can also be pests when they enter our space uninvited, and in some cases, they can be bad for our health. They come into our house to escape the cold and look for food.
Mice aren’t usually dangerous, but inside our house, they can damage appliances and furniture. They can even cause electrical fires when they gnaw on wires. However, the real danger that often comes with mice is that they can transmit diseases. There is a small risk that they can pass it to you and our family members if they bite you, bring ticks, fleas, and mites into our home, contaminate your food and water with their droppings, saliva, and pee, and contaminate the dust you breathe in. Mice can bite to defend themselves but mice won’t usually bite you unless you try to catch it. Contact your Broken Arrow pest control.
The Life Cycle of Mice
Adult female mice experience heat for a period of 4 to 5 days. After mating and getting pregnant, they give birth 3 weeks later, giving rise to 6 to 8 pups up to 10 times a year. Newborns are blind, and hairless without ears. They gradually start seeing, moving, and developing fur after two weeks. Mothers nurse them for 21 days, during which the pup grows rapidly. By the 4th day, their ears are fully developed.
Their hair starts to grow on the sixth day and on the tenth to twelfth day, they have a full coat of fur. The pups are weaned on the 21st day, with the males moving away from their mother’s territory while the females remain for some time. Around 2 months after birth, they reach adulthood, where they become sexually mature and active. Contact your Broken Arrow pest control.
