Types of Termite

As the name suggests, damp wood termites prefer constant moisture for their nest. This species lives along the west coast of the U.S., in the states where they can find wet wood all year round. Conehead termites are mainly found in Southern Florida. Like the name suggests, the soldier termite’s head is shaped like a cone with a sharp point on the end. King and queen termites swarm in the summers in large groups of thousands in search of mates. The two mates have a mild courtship dance and begin to start their own colony. The male or king shares the labor with the queen as she is fertilized and ready to begin having baby termites. During the first year of laying the eggs, the queen can have between 100 to 1000 eggs a day. The two care for the first few generations until there are enough young workers to help them.
