Termites are insects that cause problems in your homes and Broken Arrow Exterminator can help you with termite problems. Termites or wood-destroying insects can get into your home and consume the structural wooden part of your building that they can find. Wall studs, stringers, and drywall are all susceptible to damage from termites and other wood-destroying insects. Your home is your largest investment. It’s important to protect yourself and your belongings from these invading insects. So in this article, we are going to take a good look at termites, their life cycle, and what you and your Broken Arrow Exterminator do to protect yourself and your loved ones from these insects.

Termite colonies

Termites organize themselves into a colony and use a caste system to carry out the daily tasks that are necessary for their survival. At the top of the caste system is their reproductive system. The queen is the head of this cast. She lays all the eggs for the colony. She’ll maintain a population that can often be in the millions. Her job will be to lay eggs 24 hours a day till she dies.

The next cast in the colony are the soldiers. These soldiers are tasked with protecting the colony from invaders, especially ants. When ants invade the colony, they’ll come through the corridors and mud tubes that make it up. The soldiers will come alive and head straight into the fray. Their large heads will block off those corridors, and then the worker termites will fill in the Mud tubes behind them, trapping them with no escape. The worker termites are the last cast and are tasked with doing everything else necessary for the survival of the colony.

Controlling Termites by Broken Arrow Exterminator

There are essentially two ways that we take care of termites. We use a liquid treatment or a bait station system. Liquid treatment is where you dig a trench all the way around the house and put pesticide to the ground creating a curtain or wall of pesticide-treated dirt underground. This wall goes all the way around your house and protects your house from these insects. The second method is by putting bait stations all the way around your house. They have a bait in them that the insects will eat and then carry back to their colony. This bait will kill off the entire colony. Contact your Broken Arrow Exterminator for help with termites.
